Looking back on the year 2017

A recap of 2017, by founder Troels Flensted.

2017 started with a Talent Award by Vogue Italia which included an exhibition in Milan. During this event, we launched ‘Perception’ – a collection of colourful mirrors. The studio received a work grant from the Danish Arts Foundation and was supported by the same foundation to develop ‘Peep’ – an experimental exhibition in the studio together with colleagues. The development and production of ‘Assembly’, which was exhibited as part of the Cabinetmaker’s Autumn Exhibition at Design Museum Denmark, was also supported by The Danish Arts Foundation. I’ve since the exhibition been offered to be a permanent member of the Cabinetmaker’s Autumn Exhibition, which I was honoured to accept.

TROELS FLENSTED STUDIO received a Bronze Award by A’ Design Award which included exhibitions throughout the world of the Poured Collection. It’s been in Shenzhen in China, and will continue touring in 2018. Other exhibitions in 2017 included Milan, Belgium, Copenhagen, and London. In London we launched ‘Solid Geometry Series’ at designjunction which was held at Central Saint Martins, where I did my studies.

2017 was also the year where we welcomed 16 new stockists. It’s very important to me to select these representatives with care. On top of this, we have a rule not to have more than one stockist in a city, or a maximum two in the biggest cities in the world. I’m looking forward to the continued collaboration with these new amazing shops and galleries: Longoria Collection (Houston, Texas), YOOX (Online), Another Nué (Copenhagen), Skekk (Iceland), The Nordic House (Iceland), Current Home (Scarsdale, New York), Tips Shop (Trondheim, Norway), Arteum (Paris), Objet Trouve (Knokke, Belgium), Skanno (Helsinki), Nordic Elements (Dublin), Norcross and Scott (Chicago), Brownie Gallery Store (Shanghai), Design House Stockholm (Frankfurt am Main), Pelican Story (UK, Online), Yad Cheri (USA, Online)

I personally received a Talent of the Year 2017 Award at Design Awards in Copenhagen by Bo Bedre along with a travel grant, which I plan on using for a vacation with my fiancé in 2018.

The studio and our collections have been featured in numerous press articles and photo shoots throughout the year. I’m especially grateful to Gitte Kjær and Pernille Vest who has borrowed a lot of our work for the Danish magazine RUM and for various prestigious clients.

I would like to say a huge thank you to our two employees Thilde Dalager (who’s on maternity leave, but truly missed), and Linda Weimann. It wouldn’t have been possible without you. Also a big thank you to the talented interns we’ve had the pleasure of working with this year; Mariana Francisco, Laura Alesi and Ida Clausen.

2018 will be a year with new collaborations, exhibitions, and product launches, and I can’t wait to show you guys what we’re working on, with the first news in the middle of January.

Thank you for 2017, and I’m looking forward to the year ahead.

Troels Flensted
